We hold space for this

Doulas of San Diego deliberately keeps room on the schedule for families exactly like yours. Some babies arrive earlier than expected. Some families don't realize until three nights in that they cannot do this alone. Some partners go quiet, look up overnight postpartum care for the first time at 2am, and find us. Our calendar is built to leave space for these calls.

This is not a long shot. It is worth asking — every time.

The first step is simple: complete the inquiry form. It takes a few minutes. Our office will get back to you within one business day with a real answer about availability, what it looks like, and what it costs. You are not committing to anything by inquiring. You are getting information.

How it works when you book after baby arrives

Let's walk through how this is different from booking us before your baby was born.

Pricing is a la carte. Our pre-booked packages are designed weeks or months in advance. When you reach out after baby has arrived, we build something that aims to fit what you actually need right now and what the team has open. You will see a clear price tied to the specific nights and hours we can offer — not a packaged rate.

Coverage may be shared across more than one doula. Depending on individual schedules in any given week, your nights might be covered by a team of rotating doulas from our team. Whenever possible, we aim to limit the number of doulas who work with one family and we will be transparent with you about what we have available. Every doula on our team is certified, trained to the same standards, and works from the same overnight protocols, so the care itself stays consistent. The team model is what makes last-minute coverage possible at all.

Care can typically begin within a few days — sometimes the same week — when availability exists at the time you inquire. We will not make you wait while we figure things out. Once we know what is open, we will lay it out for you in writing before you commit to anything.

What to expect from the care itself

The care does not get a smaller version because you booked late.

Whether you book three months ahead or three days after baby arrives, your overnights are the same: a certified postpartum doula in your home from 9pm to 6am, taking the night feeds and the wakeups so you can actually sleep. Every shift gets timestamped notes in Doula Connect so you wake up to a clear record of how the night went. Reliable backup is built in. Same team, same training, same nights.

Quick answers to what you're probably wondering

Can you actually help me right now? Possibly, yes. We hold capacity on the schedule specifically for families inquiring after baby arrives. We can't promise space — it depends on the week — but reaching out is always worth it. We will know within one business day.

How quickly can someone be in my home? If we have availability, care often starts within a few days of your inquiry. In some cases, the same week. We will tell you exactly when we can begin once we have confirmed availability.

How does pricing work if I didn't book in advance? A la carte rate, based on what you need and what is open on the team. Once we know what nights and hours are available, we will give you a clear written breakdown of the price before you commit. It is not the same as our pre-booked package pricing — it is built to fit your situation right now.

How does it work if my doula changes night to night? For last-minute coverage, your nights may be staffed by a team of doulas. Every doula is certified, trained to the same standards, and follows the same overnight protocols. Each one reads the prior night's shift notes in Doula Connect before walking in, so they know exactly where things stand with your baby and your household. Continuity is built into the system, not into a single person.

What do I do right now to find out if you have availability? Complete the short inquiry form. That is the only step. Our office will respond within one business day with a real answer.

You are in the hardest part right now. Reaching out is the right move whether the answer turns out to be yes or no. Either way, you will walk away with real information and a plan for what happens next.
